Attention teachers: Careers in Science lesson plans now available
Attention teachers: Careers in Science lesson plans now available

Genetic engineer? Forensic scientist? Nuclear physicist? Zoologist? Science Communicator?

These are just a few of the hip careers in science available to students today. And to help them get thinking about where science could take them, free Careers in Science lesson plans have just been released.

The lesson plans are part of the Careers in Science joint initiative between the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, CSIRO, the Australian Institute of Marine Science, the Defence Science and Technology Organisation and the NSW Ministry of Science and Medical Research.

The lesson plans are designed for science teachers and careers advisers to use with Year 9 and 10 students. Two lessons for science teachers and three lessons for careers advisers are available. An additional occupational research worksheet can be used in either subject.

The lesson plans help illustrate to students how important and relevant scientific knowledge is to their future careers (whether the career is in a scientific field or not). They are designed to be used in conjunction with the Careers in Science initiative's brochure and fact sheet.

The lesson plans have been designed to complement all state and territory Science syllabuses.

Visit www.careersinscience.gov.au to access the Careers in Science lesson plans, brochures and other resources. Free class sets of the brochure and fact sheet can also be ordered.
